The whole issue of “suicide” is an uncomfortable thing to talk about. But it happens. And so, we have to talk about it. It’s dangerous not to talk about it. Because there’s always a room for hope. “13 Reasons Why” book author, Jay Asher, reveals that the book series almost had a completely different ending. Today’s episode is brought to you by The Un-Carrier with “T-Mobile One”, Get All unlimited. All in! If you’re like me, you’ve already binged watched the entire 13 Reasons’ series. And although we wish it had a different outcome, the book author says, “It almost actually did!” If you haven’t finish the Netflix series, don’t worry, there won’t be any spoilers ahead, But we are going to dive into how the book series almost ended in a drastically different way. As we know, Hannah Baker is a high school student, who takes her own life but it wasn’t always supposed to end that way. During the book’s 10th Anniversary Edition, Author, Jay Asher, reveals that Hannah actually survives in the original ending. And that version, she attempts to kill herself by swallowing pills, but was ultimately saved by her parents walking in. Who then took her to the hospital, to get her stomach pumped. Asher says quote, “I like the idea of ‘We’ve learned something from this. And yet, here’s a second chance.” However, he goes on to say, “Out of seriousness for the issue, we realized we can’t go there.” He explains,”No matter that there were missed opportunities for her. Those opportunites aren’t there if you do this.” “Once I realized that the messege of the story would be stronger and that it would definitely be more of a cautionary tale. I felt that was definitely the way to go.” The show has certainly affected us all, but it also really hit home for Little Mix’s, Perrie Edwards. Perrie took to Twitter writing quote, “The way they got the message across was amazing, and although I found it upsetting and massively disturbing I feel like every person going to school/high school should watch it.” Hannah: “Some of you cared…” Hannah: “None of you cared enough.” What do you guys think of almost alternate ending in the book series? Do you wish that would’ve happened instead? Let us know in the comments below, and as always, don’t forget to subscribe. Thanks so much for watching. the thumbnail was creepy af.
people now days dont bully at my school
I wished the ending was different😢😢
this would have been the best ebding EVER like I was like:so whens Hannah gonna show up at school and teach them there lesson?
Wait if she survived wouldn’t it be awkward cause those people already saw the tapes
I fucking loved the ending. Bittersweet tone with powerful message and hopeful vibe, just the right kind for this type of show.
EVERYONE THAT READ THE BOOK KNOWS IT.
I'm thinking the show is going to show her alive somehow
With the conclusion of the last episode in season one I have concurred: it is still a better love story than twilight.
In all seriousness this show has made me feel emotions. Some good, but mostly terrible. The thing is 13 Reasons Why really left a huge empty feeling for me. I grew too attached and don't know what to do now. I know there will be a season two, but nothing will ever be as heartbreaking as that first season.
* breathes same air as Hanna *
w e l c o m e t o y o u r t a p e
OML THEY POSTED DIS ON MY 11TH BDAY!!!!
yes i wished she surviveddd
Love 13 Reasons Why and Perrie/Little Mix 🙂
Who's watching when the trend is dead.
I think that the original ending is better
i wish hannah faked her death
I feel like people wouldn't have took the message seriously if it had a happy ending… and as much as i wanted hanna to live it was better this way
Too bad it didnt end like that xx Hannah and Clay would have been great together
I don't know…..BUT, IT IS NOT RIGHT TO CHANGE THE BOOK CONTENTS WITHOUT A PERMISION FROM THE AUTHER!!!!
I think if Hannah survives, it will be even more mysterious.
Film companies only change details…BUT WHY DID THEY CHANGE THAT MUCH IN 13 REASINS WHY?
the original ending sounds like the movie Cyberbully
What!😲
i read this book in the 7th grade and instantly fell in love with hannah. at the time, i understood how alone she felt which made me a lot more protective over her. i was ecstatic to find out they were making a show but when the show came out, i finally saw just how fucked up hannah actually was. i loved how katherine portrayed her but i just wish she wasn't such a problematic character. i understand the message Jay and the writers were trying to send to the viewers but they could have taken a lot more easier route than they did and just had her swallow the pills rather than her(graphically) slitting her wrists.
Omg I cried so much watching this show. I was hoping the whole way through that she would come back to life or that it was all faked but that's not how it works in the real world
i like that ending, that she survived, her classmates and friends were total dicks
I know it would be hard, but I feel like there's a way to implement the other ending. Maybe have Clay have visions about what it would be like if he had stepped in? Or maybe even make it to where most of the first season was some kind of a dream but he was seeing what Hannah was going through and he was the one who stopped her? I feel like that way it could show both sides. I think it was important to note how much the real reality of suicide affects everyone else but I feel like something like what I mentioned could shed some light on the other side; the attempters.
I think this show was great I loved it but we all have to admit Hannah was too sensitive on most subjects I mean we've all been through a really bad situation when everyone just treats us shitty because of their own selfishness n their own problems we've all had encounters with people like Bryce who are jerks n don't give a shit that they hurt u but we got through it n we didn't kill ourselves.but u know..people make different decisions that's why we're people.
Obviously the book came out before the movie Girl Like Her. It's another bullying movie on Netflix that stars Hunter King(Summer, Young and the Restless) and Lexi Ainsworth(Kristina, General Hospital) as Hunter's character bullies Lexi's character. I first heard about in early 2016 and found it online(didn't have netflix till 2017). Not trying to reveal anything about the movie but the way it goes is the movie shows the one character doing pills.
NOW I NEED TO READ THE BOOKS AAGAH
13 Reasons Why is garbage. Both the book and the show. Not sorry.
Bullies have something going on in their own life that makes them pick on other people. Stand Up In Tennessee, Stand Up In Florida, Stand Up In Georgia, Stand Up in New Jersey, Stand Up in Alaska…One for every state. Wonderful group for elementary, middle school, or high school children/teens to direct what to do if you are being bullied. Great Resources for parents to empower your children to send them into their school.

Hannah dying made sad af. Wish she'd survived.😭😢
what a prick I wanted her to survive
This version was better
REDO THIS NETFLIX SO WE CAN ACCTULAY SEE THE REAL ENDING
Their would’ve been a suicide anyway bc if hannah didnt take her like skye whould had
I get that they needed to dramatize the situation for the show and the message, but there are so many unrealistic scenarios in the story that it makes it hard to maintain suspension of disbelief at times. The scene as she leaves school for the last time and says 'some of you cared, none of you cared enough' is when she is still alive and going home to kill herself. It's unrealistic to portray someone about to do the deed as that knowledgeable about what they are going through, because if they understood the situation that well suicide would not be their solution. There are other examples of this throughout the show. I still think it's a great show and it needed to be made, I just think it could have been a lot better.
I wish that ending happened
Ending in book series is bad. it's like indian movies, we want her dead and her 12 causes will hunt bruce and he want to suffer his cause until he died.
I thought the author was a girl🤦🏽♀️😂
Here's my alternate ending. What if hannah faked her own death as an alternate ending? Think about it. What if she returns and everyone is happy?? She and clay can finally have their happy ending?? She would have suceeded in her revenge on each and every person who hurt her, according to the tapes? To be honest, the problem with suicide and this show is that its all about revenge (not all suicides are necessarily about getting revenge but this one pushes for revenge from beyond the grave). In my opinion though, Hannah doesn't actually get to live out and see her revenge so she doesn't actually get revenge. In addition, her taunts from beyond the grave will be very short lived anyway.. Everyone will eventually have normal lives (except for your criminal offenses like rape of course but even then, jail isn't so bad once people get used to it) hannah however will never get a happily ever after… her life remains ruined. There's no coming back from that. Her faking her own death would of made an excellent plot twist with an even better message. Don't let people make you feel like your better off dead when they are the ones who truly bring evil into this world. So she taught them a lesson. It might not be the best moral message yes but its certainly better than killing yourself hoping your "killers" will hate you everyday. Nobody willl continue to feel sorry for you each and everyday, they will get over it, get married, have a wonderful family and have a wonderful career, eventually your death will have meant nothing in the end.
i wish she NEVER died well i wish she NEVER killed herself
mind blown
Sky might die 😰😰😰😰
Well I'm waiting for season 2 time to get depressed again
This show glorified suicide way to much it actually ignored many of a CDC protocols to help prevent suicide when showing it in tv or movie
Yes I wish she lived I still mourn Hannah Baker!
I wish they used the alternate ending and did the ending they stuck with for adults as a separate show
Yes
Bruh i was in 7th grade and i watched it and i felt so wierd at the end why didn't i skip that part but anyway it was a good show
Yes
I wish atleast they should make aan imaginary series where they end up together… Please I want to or rather I need to see them living that happily ever after… Their love did not deserve this ending… 😫😢
I really wanted Hannah to survive in the end just like in the book
Wah…Hannah i love u….but I see the message, and I know what a big problem suicide is…so please guys, dont bully
Honestly. Not at all. I think if it had ended in the way of pills wouldn’t have gotten the message across as well. I only believe this because it could be taken the wrong way. For example someone could want to kill themselves and think that “well because in the tv series 13 reasons why she takes pills and survives maybe if I take pills I’ll survive” and more lives would be taken. A lot of people who take their own lives don’t understand that they will not come back to see anyone wether it’s their mom dad brother sister anyone. So I believe that the way it ended was a good way because she didn’t survive. Maybe the pills would be better if she didn’t live. But the way it ended and she didn’t live was a good way to get there point across originally.
I would have preferred the alternate ending where she survived however the ending wouldn't have been so dramatic and if she did end up with clay the series could have been a love series and it would have been so effective
Suicide is a very serious issue and I feel that this series really captured the emotions of not only Hannah Baker but also everyone else who really cared for her and who were left with the pain after her death
I wish in season 2 she is Not dead she got out from the hospital and hid somewhere
I wish it did but it wouldn't be very realistic, I mean it can happen but yeah
If she hadn’t died in the série and would’ve survived we wouldn’t know how the other people like her friends or family handled it
noo wish..
I wish she survived instead, she was such a pretty girl😭
I wish it would have ended that way. Yea her dying makes it intense and pushes the issue, but if she lived it could show that things like this happen and it doesn’t have to end in death. It could show that there is help, there is support, and you can get treatment. Having Hannah live and get stronger could show all those watching that things can get better
I feel like the message was much stronger with how it ended- however season 2 would’ve probably been much more interesting
Wow
I prefer the second ending, but hear me out. I'm someone who struggles with severe depression. I've cut my self and almost took my own life. Obviously I didn't and never will, I've got the help I've needed and I know how to [cope] with it. Hannah never did, the severe bullying she went through caused her to take her life because she couldn't handle the pain and she truly believed no one would of done anything even if they knew she was going to die intentionally. When I was in my darkest moments I was left alone with my thoughts. There was always that voice saying "no one gives a shit about you, it's not worth it anymore. It's easier to die." but then there was that other voice that said "think about what would happen if you did. Your sister, your parents, [best friend] would have to live knowing their best friend/ daughter / sister killed herself.
That's the message the shows giving viewers. You ending your life will fuck up others, and don't be a cause of suicide. It has a good message really. The original ending would really only say 'there's a chance they'll be okay so what you do doesn't matter.' But it does matter. Everything matters somehow or someway.
They should do a bonus episode for the original ending
NOOOO I WANTED HER TO LIVE IMAGINE THE DIFFERENCE IN HER LIFE IF SHE WAS STILL ALIVE SHE WOULD HAVE GOT MARRIED TO CLAY!!!!!!!!!!! I’m so annoyed
I wish Hannah was alive ! I ship Hannah and Clay
18 may comes season 2
Low key I have this theory about Hannah. I think she’s still alive and well. That’s why there was no funeral and Tony only saw “her body” in the bag. She faked her death because she was trying to teach everyone a lesson about bullying. She ran away for a new life like Alison DiLaurentis
I liked the ending
Holy s***
To be realistic if she survived people would bully her even more for her suicide and I don't think even clay would go to help her like when she was called a do it and he kind of increased the distance between himself and Hannah.
YES WHY SHE DIED URGG I HATE MY .LIFE
If Hannah stayed alive, then the whole rest of the story would have changed and there could have not been a season 2
Shes alive!!!!!!😆😆😆😆😆😆😆so happy😄😄😄
I want Hannah to alive
fuck netflix. for that fake ending
I was crying when hanna died so yes
I want plot twist – Hanna got saved and ran away in the woods, only for clay to find her.
Remember guys it's just an idea, might be impractical.
PERRIEIEIEIEIEIEIEIEIEIEIIEIE
I think if they ever made a season 3 clay would kill himself like Hannah
I was so shocked from the differences between the show and the book, and I will say I prefer the book more
the original ending make all the sence for me. I watch season 2 first, I like it better thou
I wish that he did the one when she survived all of the things she did to herself. And i wish that clay confessed his love for Hannah if he did she would still be alive
People should do more to help survivors of rape instead of shaming them.
I wish Hannah did all like a play… But not dieing… I thought she will show up at the end. I wish to see her ..😢
I wish hannah dont die
I prefer d book ending. Hannah gets a second chance as do all d other kids to make it right
He's right. I always wanted her to still be alive and be with Clay but it's a series with a message. And if the series didn't end like that, then the message won't be received to viewers.
I held onto hope all season long (season 1) hoping it wasn't what she decided to do. Maybe, just maybe, she was really alive. She deserved so much better. For a fictional character, she just seemed to real to me. I've never been torn apart by a show like this, but I look forward to revisiting it again down the road. It's a roller coaster ride of emotions you don't find in many shows. Probably because the material is so damn relate able.
After watching pretty little liars, I don't think she is dead
He is a legend.
Try to comment
Waste of time watching this.
The way Hannah cut herself made me feel
ShOoK
I would love for this to be an alternate version
Yes because season 2 was god awful
a show made for insecure thot
Can we get a book where she does survive and a season where she does bc I was fuckin upset bc clay didn’t deserve this shit. PERIODT
In 10th Anniversary of book Author also talk about alternative ending where Hannah survived and Clay told his love feeling to Hannah at end 😄
Hannah+Clay = Claynnah. I wish Hannah would of survived
