Green Goblin trade paperback review

Green Goblin trade paperback review

Posted on December 2, 2019 by Michael Wallace

This is a review on the trade paperback
called the Green Goblin and it was this one the hero version in
the nineteen nineties and it was a great series back then and it got all reprinted in this trade paperback cover prices is expensive at $39.99 but you could get cheaper with online
discounts and includes issues Web of Spider-Man 125 Spectacular spider man 225 andy Green Goblin 1 – 13 which is the
complete series and the amazing Scarlet Spider 2 background on this volume before the Green Goblin returned norman osborn
officially he was dead for a long time and this guy Phil Urich who’s the hero in this volume he stumbles
upon a Green Goblin lair that Harry Osborne had he was no longer in the books either because he was also killed but as you know they brought both those characters back eventually anyway both Goblins gone the original ones this one was Phil Urich he was actually a sort of wannabe hero and that’s how he became the Green Goblin and the art in this volume is mostly by Scott Mcdaniel he did some DC work after this in particular Nighwing that paper quality here is really good nice color some good reproduction here the only thing i should mention that is
missing is there was a Green Goblin appearance with Ultraforce which was the Malibu characters and they didn’t include that because they
probably don’t have the right or there’s some issue going on with Ultraverse characters they didn’t print that one issue here otherwise it’s pretty much the whole run of the character from the nineties and this was his first appearance in the
book this series why they included that and check it out the art if you tried it get a look here actually do like the artist style but some people might not like it is
pretty uh nineties type with some deep shading or sharp angles to it the main series was only thirteen issues
not including those crossovers one of the reasons they got rid of the
book probably besides low sales was the fact that they wanted the Green
Goblin to return Norman Osborne and they were wrapping
up the clone saga they needed to blame someone and so if you bring back original Green Goblin you can’t have this hero Goblin also with the same gimmick the stories and the writing in the overall tone of the book was really good and show you art he crosses over with Scarlet Spider Daredevil he has a couple of his own villains he fights and later on in the Spider Girl the MC2 universe they brought the character back but it really wasn’t the same anymore even in Marvel Comics now they did bring the character back and unfortunately they turned him evil and made the new Hobgoblin but really the character representation now is I think it’s really off track it’s not like they had a good hold character anymore
any other writers who took over but this version and really good showed a lot of promise and potential it’s kind of shame that it didn’t continue and because this character did have some lasting
appeal this is the volume it’s called the Green Goblin and subtitle is called a lighter shade
of green is a paperback book if you look online you’ll probably get it for discount I do recommend it’s a fun read good production qualities and worth checking out thanks for watching

Thanks 🙂 Actually one of my highest recommendations, yes it's that good a read. The character really was great. And McDaniel later did the 90s Nightwing art after this series for quite a few years. If bought I suggest not skipping forward and read each chapter in order and be surprised. 🙂

Thanks 🙂 It's a really great trade and some really good stories. I'd say for sure I recommend this volume even if you don't know much Spidey history, this book tells the reader all they need to know. 🙂

What's weird is they don't have Phil Urich's first two appearances. It was during the whole clone mess and there was a big mystery about who the new Green Goblin was. His first appearance was in a Web Of issue. But he had a second appearance in Amazing I think. If memory serves, both of them had a little holographic disc in the center of the cover.
